What is ISO 55110: 2014 ?

ISO 55110: 2014 and ISO 55103: 2014 are both technical standards developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) with the goal of providing guidance for the design, installation, and operation of pedestrian accessible tactile ground surface indicators (TGSIs) and audio, video, and audio-visual systems, respectively.

ISO 55110: 2014 is focused on the design, installation, and operation of TGSIs in order to assist people with visual impairments or other disabilities in safely navigating the built environment. The standard specifies requirements and guidelines for the TGSIs, including their dimensions, material materials, and test procedures. It also provides guidance on the selection of appropriate TGSIs based on the specific needs of different environments and users.

ISO 55103: 2014, on the other hand, is focused on the design and evaluation of independent control devices used in audio, video, and audio-visual systems. The standard provides guidelines for manufacturers, integrators, and users to ensure interoperability and compatibility between different devices and systems. It covers various aspects of system control, including device control, message formats, data exchange protocols, and error handling.

In conclusion, both ISO 55110: 2014 and ISO 55103: 2014 are important technical standards for ensuring the safety, accessibility, and compatibility of TGSIs and audio, video, and audio-visual systems. Adopting these standards can help manufacturers, integrators, and users to develop and deploy more inclusive and accessible solutions for people with disabilities.
