What is IEC 60317-3 ?

IEC 60317-3 and IEC 62196-3 are two important international standards that play a crucial role in the safety and efficiency of electrical systems.

IEC 60317-3, also known as "Vertical Flame Propagation for Electrical Wires and Cabling," is an international standard that defines the test method for evaluating the fire behavior and resistance properties of electrical cables. This standard is widely used in the evaluation of fire safety systems, as well as in the testing of fire-resistant materials and components.

The standard was developed in response to the growing concern about the potential dangers of electrical fires, and to provide a standardized method for evaluating the performance of electrical cables in these tests.

IEC 62196-3, also known as "Type 2 connector or Mennekes connector," is an international standard for charging electric vehicles (EVs) utilizing alternating current (AC). It specifies the requirements for both the vehicle inlet and the charging infrastructure plug, ensuring compatibility and safety during EV charging.

The standard was developed in response to the growing demand for EVs, and to provide a standardized method for charging EVs that is compatible with a wide range of infrastructure.

Both IEC 60317-3 and IEC 62196-3 are important international standards that are widely recognized and followed by manufacturers and users around the world. They provide a standardized method for evaluating the fire behavior and resistance properties of electrical cables and EV charging infrastructure, ensuring safety and compatibility.
